Disclaimer

For the record, I am not a Capitals Fan. Ryan may or may not even like hockey. As such, we are not using this site to do the following:

1) Promote the Capitals as the best team in hockey (Although it will discuss the Capitals quite often)
2) Promote Ovechkin as the best player in the NHL (Although he may very well be)
3) Advance the idea that Ovechkin is better then Crosby, or vice-vera (Don't get me started)

In short, this in not a website devoted towards an endless debate over who or what is the best.
This is a website devoted to the hypothetical possibility that Ovechkin could some day wind up with 895 goals and to track his progress towards that. Please, do not inundate us with posts saying things like "Ovechkin sucks! Crosby rules." We will not respond to those posts.

However, please weigh in with legitimate thoughts on whether or not you believe Ovechkin has a shot at the record. Arguments backed up with statistics always help.

He Knew What was at Stake.

ESPN Recap - Washington Capitals vs. Tampa Bay Lighting

On the day that ovechkin895.blogspot.com went live Alexander Ovechkin scored 2 goals. The goals were Ovechkin's 52nd and 53rd of the season. The two goals assured Ovechkin of having his second highest single season goal total of his short career. Clearly he know that the day of the creation of this website needed to be marked with his magnificence.

Ovechkin and the Capitals have 6 games left this season, including a Sunday April 5th afternoon tilt on NBC. Washington has clinched their division but are in a close race (just 1 point ahead) with New Jersey for the 2nd playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The 3rd seed has a good chance of facing Sid the Kid in the round one, instead of the struggling mix of the Rangers, Canadians or Panthers. This probably means Ovechkin will see lots of ice time down the stretch.

Executive Summary

Sometime in early March 2009 a bet was placed between two good friends. The bet involved Alex Ovechkin, the right winger of the NHL's Washington Capitals.

The bet was this: Will Alex Ovechkin break Wayne Gretzky's career goals record of 894 goals?

The bet was placed by Patrick Bohn of Ithaca, NY in favor of Ovechkin eventually breaking Gretzky's record. The bet was accepted by Ryan Vooris, also of Ithaca, who gave Patrick 12-1 odds on his $100 bet.

This site will chronicle the evolution of said bet. It is not a gambling site.
